ANNOUNCEMENTS
On Wednesday, 18 August from 6pm
to 7pm, St Paul’s will offer a new study series entitled: “Embracing an Adult Faith, Marcus Borg on What
it Means to be Christian”. Author and Bible scholar Marcus Borg invites us to join him in revisiting Christianity’s
most fundamental questions: Who is God? What does salvation mean? What place does Jesus hold in contemporary Christian faith?
In this five-session, faith-formation resource, we will enjoy the rare privilege of witnessing Marcus in dialogue with a small,
diverse group of adults as they honestly — and sometimes painfully — confront the big questions and work together
toward authentic answers. Each session includes a 10-minute DVD presentation by Marcus Borg followed by interaction with the
group. We’ll be able to join this dialogue in our own setting here at St Pauls. This study addresses fundamental questions
that adults struggle with as faith matures. It can be used as a resource for personal reflection as well as small group experience. The five sessions include:• God• Jesus•
Salvation• Community . Study guides are available on the website for $12.95—please
order one and bring it to class. Scholarships are available for the workbook--please let me know if you wish me to order
a study guide for you so that you will have one for class.
Wouldn’t you like to know? About what it means to be Christian? More about the faith?
What is the Nicene Creed and why do we say it every Sunday? Why do we celebrate Eucharist every Sunday and every opportunity
we have? What does it mean to be an Episcopalian, an Anglican? If you would like to know more about these and
many more things, consider attending The Inquirer’s Class in September. This 13 week class, September 12-December
5 (with a class break for Thanksgiving on November 21st, answers these questions and many more—because inquiring minds
want to know! So come, if you would like to learn more about the church. Also, if you are considering joining the Episcopal
Church as full members, whether a preteen, teen, or a very senior adult, it will prepare you for Confirmation or Reception
into the Episcopal Church. And I promise, we will learn much about the church and have fun doing it together!
There is a signup sheet on the Book of Remembrance table, just inside the church entrance.I encourage you to come and learn
about the church. All women of St. Paul’s belong to The Women of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brady, Texas.
There are no special criteria or tests or initiations required. THAT’S IT!!
The extent to which a woman is involved in organized activity is up to her. The Women will meet monthly from August, 2010
through May, 2011, on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:05 pm in the Education Building. The mission of this
organization is to relate the entire woman hood of the parish to the whole goal of the Church through a program of worship,
service, gifts and fellowship to the end that each woman may find her place in the parish family and the mission of the church.
This includes cooperation with the Episcopal Women of the Diocese of West Texas and the Episcopal Church USA.Please join in on our first meeting August 3, 2010 at 5:05pm. We will update and evaluate the
projects, services and outreach already in existence AND explore new
horizons. Get Involved Globally: Why NOt YOU?
